A Sacred Journey into Heart Healing and Awakening
Heart Purification & Awakening Retreat
March 18–21, 2027 · Taos, New Mexico, USA
AN EXPLORATION OF HEART HEALING, AWAKENING, AND SACRED PLAY
Grandfather Cactus is powerful heart medicine, inviting us to heal what has been broken, open more fully to love, and remember our deep interconnection with ourselves, each other, and Mother Nature.
This intimate 3-night retreat is an invitation to work with Cactus medicine in the mountains outside of Taos, New Mexico, surrounded by acres of untouched natural beauty. Together, we will explore heart purification and expansion, awakening, connection, and the healing power of sacred play.
The journey includes two Cactus ceremonies, beginning with a deeper ceremony centered around purification and heart opening, followed by a lighter ceremony devoted to heart expansion, creativity, joy, and play. Our time together may also include shamanic drumming and journeying, a despacho ceremony, rituals for heart connection, work with the four directions and elements, singing, dancing, creativity, and somatic release.
We will begin our journey with a Rapéh ceremony to connect with the land and one another, and the retreat includes intentional preparation, nourishing organic meals, three nights of lodging, and two weeks of post retreat integration support.
Led by Kat Courtney, who is trained in the ancient Chavin tradition of Cactus shamanism, this retreat offers a compassionate community for those seeking healing, awakening, joyful connection, and a deeper relationship with their own hearts. Together, we will work with powerful intentions, reconnect with what it feels like to let our hearts lead, and bring a little more love back into the world.

Your 4-Day Journey - Itinerary
-
Our retreat house is about 1 hour 15 mins away from Taos airport (TSM). Everyone is welcome to arrive by 12 noon, and no later than 4 pm if possible. We will have a light dinner, do a talking circle to get to know each other, go over the protocols for ceremony, and start with a Rapéh ceremony to connect with the land and each other. Then it's off to a good night's sleep!
-
Our first Cactus ceremony will be with a full strength dose for all those ready to go deep. We will start at 9 am after a very light breakfast, and the experience will last well into the evening. We will have time to walk the land, engage in very special rituals as a community, and enjoy quiet meditation too. Activities may include shamanic drumming/journeying, a despacho ceremony, small group rituals for heart connection, and a formal ritual working with the four directions and the four elements. The theme is heart purification and heart opening - we will ask Grandfather Cactus to help us heal our broken hearts, and to start reawakening what it feels like to let our hearts lead us.
-
Our 2nd ceremony with Grandfather Cactus will be a somewhat lighter dose, and this time our focus will be on sacred PLAY. We will have breakfast together, and gather at 11 am for our second deep dive with the medicine. After some powerful prayers and rituals, we will enjoy the retreat's game room, engage in some creativity, and let our inner children enjoy some freedom and joy. We will bust out some creative tools, play, sing and dance - and let Cactus guide us in somatic releases. We'll have a big celebratory dinner, and close our circle with an integration talk. Our hearts will be wide open and ready to juice up the world :)
-
After a final breakfast and clean-up, we will all embark back to our beautiful lives. We are happy to help organize carpools and shared Lyfts/Ubers for folks based upon departure times. We must leave our retreat home by 10 am.
