Walking with Rose: Creating an Allyship with the Queen

Rose is everywhere these days sparking conversations around love, sensuality, beauty, and rage as sacred forms of the Divine Feminine’s return. As someone who has cultivated a nearly 30 year relationship with this being, I completely understand her energy resurfacng in so many different ways to inspire us.

In times like these, Rose Medicine is vital for connecting with the fierce, yet soft, protection living inside each of us. While many people focus on her beauty and seductive sides, I would like to share her other qualities and what makes her a Queen in the plant world when it comes to allyship.

What is Allyship and How do I Cultivate it with Rose?

I love the term “allyship” and how it describes a deeper connection being made with something important. It’s a relationship rooted in reciprocity between yourself and the plant or fungi, a community, a tradition, or a person. I’m talking about taking time to get to know someone or some being with care before asking them a laundry list of stuff to do to support you. Plants are generous beings backing up humans in a myradid of ways, yet often times we can get lost in our own needs, forgetting to give back.

Allyship is created over time, rather than through random one-off experiences with high amounts of expectations of return. It is the embodied realization that the more you give and show up with open curiosity, the more you receive. This concept is similar to when you sit at your altar or another power-spot to meditate, pray, journal, or whatnot, and over time the place becomes imbued with power because of the energy of your attention, care, and dedication.

When working with plant medicines, it is important to listen to the messages that are specific to you before reseasrching the plant or fungi. Rose Medicine has a very long history with various personal experiences, medicinal, and spiritual properties. Remember, allyship is about the connection you make with the being you are inviting into yor field. Below I will share some practices to help you connect with Rose on a personal level, and what challenges may arise.

The Multifacted Nature of Rose Medicine

I am constantly astonished when people primarily talk about the gentle and sensual nature of Rose Medicine. Yes, of course she is sweet and gentle when needed, however, her energy changes with the color she inhabits, giving her a wide range of properties and lessons. For example, her light pink varieties are excellent for connecting with your inner child, developing self-care practices, and healing from heartbreak.

However, her darker pink and red varieties, are an excellent vibration for sexual trauma, reconnecting with the womb, sacred rage, and developing boundaries. On the other hand, white roses are great for working with the Ancestors, grief, and letting go. Each color is an invitation to unravel outdated patterns and learn from her wise lineage.

Rose allows us to meet different parts of ourselves through her multifaceted medicine. This can be challenging when you want softness but she brings up hidden anger stored in the body. Rose gives voice to that which is ignored, suppressed, and protected by allowing it to surface through the stem, thorns, and petals.

Her mysterious nature invites us inward, asking for bravery in meeting the Self with compassion, even when challenging aspects arise. She is resourceful and ambidextrous in her ability to stand by us as a true ally.

Ways to Begin Walking with Rose

I have had the honor and pleasure to work with her in various ways over the last 30 years as a medicine carrier, women’s health practitioner, and herbalist. The more you work with one plant, the more wisdom and support you will receive. Rose is my main ally, teacher, and friend I go to when I require understanding, clarity, and support.

The allyship I have cultivated has come from learning everything I can, while staying open to new possabilities. Remember this is a journey, not a sprint! Here are some examples of how you can begin Walking the Path of Rose.

  • Songs: Plants love to be sung to or about. Create a song, listen to a song that has been created and learn the words, or invite Rose to give you a song for your connection.

  • Plant Rose: Plant a rose bush in your garden, kitchen, or find a rose sanctuary you can go to for meditation. Learn the way the grow and where they thrive. Feed your menstrual blood to them (they love this), or make other offerings to the live being.

  • Tinctures: Make a rose tincture or flower essence to imbibe her on a semi-regualr basis. Learn about her medicinal and spiritual properties.

  • Venus: The planet Venus makes a sacred geometric rose pattern in the sky every 8 years! Learn her pattern and where Venus is placed in your astrological chart.

  • Plant Dietas: Join a plant medicine dieta (we have one coming up in May!) to connect with other Rose Medicine enthusiasts! Share your experiences, receive downloads, and create community around this powerful being.

What Rose Teaches Through Relationship

Rose Medicine awakens emotional honesty with ourselves and others, allowing for deeper and more profound connections in our lives. She teaches us about discernment, the power of NO, and where are boundaries have been crossed. Women have often been silenced throughout time, and Rose teaches us to speak up.

While she shows us that tenderness and protection can coexist, she can also support openness without shutting down from painful experiences. Her layered wisdom reminds us to slow down, move into the back side of the body, feel the breath in the belly, and receive. This is not a weakness as she can be a fierce Queen when the messages are ignored for too long, but her ultimate message is one of Divine Love.

The Queen Teaches Through Presence

Rose is the ultimate ally, teaching us through her multifaceted approach, and supporting the soft and challenging with grace. Her gifts come through presence, repetition without predictability, commitment, patience, and the willingness to show up even when it is challenging.

As a multi-decade student of Rose, I can say that her Wisdom has been vital to my plant medicine path as student and mentor. She is the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone all wrapped into one! Walking with Rose with change your life for the better. AHO!
